Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS) 

Smurfit-Stone offers a range of Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS) boxboards. Whether it’s bakery boxes or blister board, we have the answer. Machine clay coated and uncoated boxboard is made from bleached wood pulp for use in packaging and non-packaging applications. We offer the following:

Coated One Side SBS: Masterprint is 100% SBS with two applications of clay coating that offers excellent ink hold out properties. MasterprintTM is FDA approved for contact with food products and is excellent for folding carton work. It’s also suitable for multicolor gravure, offset and flexo printing with UV and water-based acrylic coatings. Features and benefits include:  

  • Elemental chlorine free (ECF)
  • One of the smoothest boxboard grades
  • Lower density than recycled boxboard
  • Brightness of 80-85
  • Available in a caliper range of .012-.026

Coated One Side Blister Board (SBS): MastersealTM clay coated SBS is perfect for face seal blister cards. The clay coating and base sheet were developed to give excellent printability and fiber tear with the use of heat-seal coatings. Masterseal TM  can be used with water-based and solvent-based inks. Features and benefits include:

  • Guaranteed seal ability
  • Designed for low tack wax-free inks
  • Available in .012 - .026 low density

Coated Two Sides Blister Board (SBS): Masterseal II® has a seal ability guarantee for both face-seal blister use and fold over use. This blister board has double clay coating on the topside and single heavy clay coating on the back. The topside coating is suitable for face seal blister application and the back side is for heat-seal fold over blister card coatings or printing. Features and benefits include:
  • Guaranteed seal ability
  • Perfect for face seal blister use and fold over blister card use

Uncoated Skin Board (SBS): Mastervac® is a custom-made product for skin packaging industry that allows a vacuum to be pulled through the sheet to draw Surlyn® film down around the product being packaged. It is designed for heat seal coatings and two to six offset or flexo printing on one side only. It doesn’t require perforation and provides one of the smoothest skin pack printing surfaces in the industry. Features and benefits include:

  • Available in .020-.026 low density
  • Caliper range from .020-.026
  • Seal ability guarantee for skin card use
