FAQs
What is the significance of paper made with ECF?
ECF is the acronym for Elemental Chlorine Free. It refers to the bleaching process used to produce bleached paper without the use of chlorine gas. Before the ECF bleaching process was adopted, paper fiber was bleached white using chlorine gas. This process posed a risk of chlorine gas leaks and generated tiny amounts of dioxin. ECF bleaching uses chlorine derivatives, not chlorine gas, and dioxins are virtually eliminated. ECF is recognized as an environmentally friendly bleaching process.
