Does porosity play a role in the printability of white top liner? If so, how do I plan for this in my plant?

Paper manufacturers usually gauge a substrate’s porosity by measuring the flow rate of air through it under specified pressure conditions.  Porosity is an indirect indicator of a substrate’s void volume and assessing how much liquid the sheet can absorb. Flexographic inks dry when the substrate absorbs the ink vehicle into its pores or voids.  Therefore, inks printed on substrates with low air permeability (normally termed “low porosity”) tend to dry slower.  The best way to plan for these differences between the liners you are using is to involve your ink supplier.  They can recommend ways to compensate for a slower drying substrate while maintaining other key print properties.
