FAQs
With all of the talk about liners being smoother and providing better print surfaces, so why don't all linerboard manufacturers just make their sheet with the same smoothness?
Linerboard producers do not have the same fiber sources or equipment on their machinery. The reality is that papermakers must balance the liner’s quality characteristics. For instance, the tools papermakers use to yield a smooth liner can sometimes take away from other desirable properties such as strength, corrugator runnability and appearance. Therefore, most manufacturers strive to make a linerboard with as much smoothness as their equipment allows while at the same time maintain acceptable strength and appearance.
